Are Those Joined to Jesus “Prone” to sin? “Prone” to Wander?

Prone: Predisposed. Likely to or liable to suffer from, do, or experience something, typically something regrettable or unwelcome. (Google)

Sin: To fall shy of the perfect and complete; to act apart from the original union, holiness and glory God created us to dwell in with Him.

Worship lyrics, spiritual teaching, preaching…I frequently hear a theme within these, in somewhat varied presentations, that we are prone to sin, prone to wander away from the Lord. I understand the sentiment. It seems humble…admitting our need for God.

Yet, is this proneness to sin and wander theme doctrinally and biblically sound truth for new covenant believers in Jesus? Or a misguided trope that weakens the conscience of believers and causes a sense of vulnerability to sin and a falling away?

Let’s look at just a few verses.

2 Corinthians 5:14-17 Weust version For the love which Christ has [for me] presses on me from all sides, holding me to one end and prohibiting me from considering any other, wrapping itself around me in tenderness, giving me an impelling motive, having brought me to this conclusion, namely, that One died on behalf of all in order that those who are living no longer are living for themselves but for the One who died on their behalf and instead of them, and was raised.

So that, as for us, from this particular time onward, not even one individual do we know as judged upon the basis of human standard. Even though we [Paul in his unsaved state] have known Christ as judged by human standard, yet now no longer do we know Him as such. So that, assuming that anyone is in Christ, he is a creation new in quality. The antiquated, out-of-date things [which do not belong to the new life in Christ Jesus] have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in quality.

This scripture reveals that our whole person is radically changed when we join ourselves to Jesus, the Christ. Our nature becomes new, the old ways have died, and like dead, injured flesh, has been cut, and cast away.

When we have only partial understanding about being unified with Jesus, we may think because we are tempted, or because we still have old habits, that we have a dual nature. I’m convinced this skewed belief is what keeps many from walking as new beings.

Many people think Romans chapter seven explains that we have a dual nature, but Paul is truly talking there about his old nature, not the new. This is why reading on to Romans 8-the redemptive chapter- is so necessary.

For instance, if in receiving Jesus Christ we continued in an old nature, Christ’s work is, at least partially, in vain. Or, if we were given a new nature, but retained the old nature as well (dual nature), then we would live in limbo-sinning one time, and standing strong resisting sin another. Though this may seem to be our experience, and a dual nature is often taught as being true, it is not accurate either.

If we believe, after joining ourselves to Christ that our whole nature hasn’t changed, then we will likely believe that we have no power over sin, that we can’t help but sin, that it’s normal to sin, and expect to sin. This belief acts as type of self-fulfilling prophecy, by which we might then fall into a cycle of false profession, and confession of habitual sins.

The old nature is prone to sin; the new nature is not.

Are we still able to sin? Unfortunately-yes. I’m not proposing we are all completely sinless, but that we will sin less. Just as Adam & Eve were created pure, and good, and had ability to choose, we also have this ability (power) to choose now, to sin, or not sin, having died to sin and being raised again as a new being. Reborn or born again.

Our new and present reality is greater than what Adam and Eve knew, having been made living souls of and in the earth; the new birth conjoins us to Jesus, the life giving spirit, and seats us with Him above all things. (See 1Corinthians 15:45, Ephesians 2:4-10.)

Paul shares the antithesis to a cycle of sin in Romans 8.

Romans 8:1-4 Therefore, now, there is not even one bit of condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, for the law of the Spirit, that of the life in Christ Jesus, freed you once for all from the law of the sinful nature and of death. For that which is an impossibility for the law, because it was weak through the sinful nature, God having sent His Son in likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the sinful nature, in order that the righteous requirement of the law may be brought to completion in us who, not as dominated by the sinful nature are ordering our behavior but as dominated by the Spirit.

In Jesus, we have been given a new nature in place of the old. This means we are no longer “sinners.” It is no longer our nature to sin. We have been transformed into a new identity- partaking of the very nature of God Himself. We are living, Being, in the dominion and power of the Holy Spirit, our own spirit made right(eous). If this is true, why does sin still seem to be a problem? And why do so many struggle greatly with sin patterns?

Most of us have yet to grasp the full reality of the work of Jesus and what it literally means to us and our transformation. This realization is continuously unfolding in our understanding.

We are called to renew our mind (restructure our thinking) to the truth of what Jesus has done for us and the righteousness, holiness and justification He’s placed us into by our faith in Him. By agreeing with Him, about ourselves, our mind, beliefs and ways begin to change into His likeness; as the image in a mirror. When Christ is fully formed in us, we look like Him. Like twins.

Romans 6:18+ And having been set free once for all from the sinful nature, you were constituted slaves to righteousness…But now, having been set free from the sinful nature and having been made bondslaves of God, you are having your fruit resulting in holiness, and the consummation, life eternal.

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, meekness, self-control. Against such things as these there is no law. And they who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the evil nature with its dispositions and cravings once for all. In view of the fact that we are being sustained in spiritual life by the Spirit, by means of the Spirit let us go on ordering our conduct.

2 Corinthians 3: 12-18 Now, as for us, we all, with uncovered face, reflecting as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are having our outward expressions changed into the same image from one degree of glory to another according as this change of expression proceeds from the Lord, the Spirit, this outward expression coming from and being truly representative of our Lord.

Examining these verses and many verses like them, we see that though it’s true we were once prone to sin, weakness, rage, lust, deceit etc., in the old nature, but we are now new and prone to righteousness via our new nature-God’s nature! Our spirit DNA that was fallen, has be upgraded, once we join in union with Jesus. We become one–one spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:17.

What then, happens when we do sin?

Romans 8:27 Moreover, He who is constantly searching our hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because, according to God, He continually makes intercession on behalf of the saints.

What does this mean?

Jesus (and through his blood and body) is continuously active, present on our behalf, intervening to make us continually clean and righteous before Him. And, the Holy Spirit of God, makes us conscious of righteousness and holiness, drawing us to that mindfulness.

Hebrews 10:21-23…and having a Priest, a Great One, over the house of God, let us keep on drawing near with a genuinely true heart in full assurance of faith, having had our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having had our body washed with pure water.

1 John 1:7 But if within the sphere of the light we are habitually ordering our behavior as He himself is in the light, things in common and thus fellowship we [the believer and God] are having with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son keeps continually cleansing us from every sin.

1 John 2:1 My little children [born-ones, bairns], these things I am writing to you in order that you may not commit an act of sin. And if anyone commits an act of sin, One who pleads our cause we constantly have facing the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One.

In truth, He is focussing on our new nature now; whether we are being corrected or celebrated, He is drawing attention to our new nature, not the old (it’s dead). Since His focus is on the new, our’s ought to be too. God is not stuck in sin consciousness and neither should we be. We are to be love, righteousness, and holiness focused. What we focus on amplifies and expands.

It it also necessary to understand, that if we say and believe we are unified with Jesus, then our overall actions will become a proof of this union. We will not want to do the things that seemed natural when we lived in an old nature. We will desire and delight to live out of our new nature.

Though for a time, while we are growing up out of our newborn birth, the old nature may still seem familiar, yet, eventually the more intimate we grow with God, and the more we renew our minds to the truth, the old will seem foreign and unusual, so that IF we sin (not when), we will want to change our stance immediately and turn back to moving out of our new nature, which affects peace and joy.

Gods grace empowers us to say, “No,”to sin (Titus 2:12). People who keep on deliberately living the same old way as before, have not understood the reality of joining to Jesus.

John 14:20-21 In that day you shall know experientially that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. He who has my commandments and habitually keeps them, that one is he who is loving me with a divine and self-sacrificial love. And he who is loving me thus, shall be loved with this same kind of love by my Father, and I shall love him with a divine and self-sacrificial love, and I shall disclose myself to him.

1 John 2:6 He who is constantly saying that he as a habit of life is living in close fellowship with dependence upon Him is morally obligated just as that One conducted himself, also himself in the manner spoken of to be conducting himself.

This action isn’t gritting our teeth, in self effort and reliance. The Holy Spirit, our helper, partners with us and compels our hearts and minds to act and Be in our new nature. In time, experientially as well as literally, it doesn’t become second nature to us, but First nature.

1Corinthians 2:9-12 But as for us, not the spirit of the world system did we receive but the Spirit who is of God in order that we might come to know the things which by God have been in grace bestowed upon us, which things also we put into words, not in words taught by human philosophy but in words taught by the Spirit, fitly joining together Spirit-revealed truths with Spirit-taught words.

Romans 8:26+ But if that which we do not see, we hope for, through patience we expectantly wait for it. And in like manner also the Spirit lends us a helping hand with reference to our weakness, for the particular thing that we should pray for according to what is necessary in the nature of the case, we do not know with an absolute knowledge; but the Spirit himself comes to our rescue by interceding with unutterable groanings.

Moreover, He who is constantly searching our hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because, according to God, He continually makes intercession on behalf of the saints. And we know with an absolute knowledge that for those who are loving God, all things are working together resulting in good, for those who are divinely-summoned ones according to His purpose.

By examining the inspired scriptures we can be assured that we no longer have a sin nature, nor a dual nature if we have been joined to God. The old died and was cut away. Upon our union of spirit and new birth (reborn/born again) and have a new nature, the nature of God.

We are also given the Holy Spirit who teaches and empowers us how to live out of it, and to reject past sinful ways. If we do sin, we can come to Him, dialogue about how we and others have been effected, and know that He faithfully cleanses us, including our conscience.

Graced to Fully Know

Graced to Fully Know, Even As We Are Fully Known

“I desire to Be Fully Known”.

It gave me pause. Fully? Would The God of All be Fully Known?

Yet my heart followed after Him, His spirit drawing me.(Song of Songs 1:4)

It had started out a mere single word, FULLNESS, and became a poetic theme, softly echoing and resounding through the chambers of my heart, contracting and expanding, filling my understanding until it found release through my voice,

“I want to Know you Even As I am fully Known!!”

Then He unveiled to my mind what my heart already believed.

‘I Desire to Be Fully Known’

The Lover Unveils for the Beloved

Love unwraps and lays open the inmost secrets of the heart; the hidden becomes the revealed.

Marriage is the imagery He created for us to understand how we are to know Him and whereby we understand that “the one who joins oneself to the Lord is One Spirit” (with Him). 1 Corinthians 6:17

The Two shall become One

I’d known of the word Epignosis, meaning ‘intercourse’-not simply verbal communications, but a communing of heart, an entwining together through the experience of one another. Now another aspect was this reality was being unveiled. His desire is that we continue to know Him more fully in the sense of shared intimacies. Oneness.

What does Being One Spirit reveal to us?iphone 009

Intimate Knowing

In the same way one’s spouse or child could be not be counterfeited, little intimate details known only to the beloved are discernible-a scar, a quirk, a birthmark… the eyes-the soul’s mirrors truth tell, so it is in our union with God.

“Does not a son know the father’s heart? Does not a bride know her husband’s eyes? And don’t best friends tell each other secrets? This is why I am alive…. I want to Know You Lord” Rick Pino

Then He brought into my view another word: Kenosis -from the great kenosis passage, meaning in it’s verb form to empty- “to give outward expression of one’s inner intrinsic nature.”* (Philippians 2)

It refers to the Union of Divine Love and Glory expressed between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each giving into the complete, beneficial experience of the other, and expressed to us through the Spirit of The Son, Jesus.

Love relinquishes Self: Emanuel, God with us

The Philippians 2  passage reads in part:

Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. 6 He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. 7 Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a servant, became human! 8 Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death– even death on a cross. (Message)

Jesus further reveals the intent of this word Kenosis in his prayer for us to the Father.

John 17:21….in order that all might be one, even as you, Father, are in me and I in you, in order that they themselves also might be in us,…

22 And as for myself, the glory which you have given me, I have given them, in order that they might be one even as we are one,

23 I in them and you in me, in order that they, having been brought to the complete state with respect to oneness, may persist in that state of completeness, to the end that the world might be understanding that you sent me on a mission and that you loved them even as you loved me. (my emphasis)

“Even As”

Love in its true and fullest form, is always Reciprocal.

As if this weren’t enough for us to be certain that He desires to be fully known, co-joined to Him, we were caught up in spirit into the existence and experience of this Kenosis-caught up into Christ, into God, seated in heavenly places.   Ephesians 2:6, Col. 3:3 & 10

We are placed into the most secure place, directly into the receivership of the kenosis of God. The heart space of His fullness-His very bosom.

For out of His fullness (abundance) we have All received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one Grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favorand gift [heaped] upon gift. (Amplified)     John 1:16

The fullness o His heart is emptied into the earth, into us; Holy Spirit abiding and indwelling us, gracing us and enabling us to explore the heights and widths and depths and breadths of this vast boundlessness

                           Love revolutions (cycles).

                                                       bring resolutions (clarity)

1Corinthians 2: 10…as the scripture says: “What no one ever saw or heard what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepared for those who love him.”

tig, longboards 070To us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through HisSpirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man’s scrutiny]…….

12 Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God. Isaiah’s question, “Is there anyone around who knows God’s Spirit, anyone who knows what he is doing?” has been answered:

Christ knows, and We Have Christ’s Spirit.”

Being secure within the fullness of Divine Kenosis, we understand how it can be true, that there is no room for fear in Love and no withholding. Kenosis, its perfected state, displaces all fear.    1John 4:18 & 19

First we were fully loved; now we may fully love.

As He is, so We Are.

Before the foundations of the world, with great detail and care, He planned to share the grace of kenosis with mankind-

In the face of mankind’s self love, He self-emptied.

Page after page of God’s journal reveals it was always His intent to fulfill our desire above all we would ask or think. How Adam and Eve “knew” each other and how they knew God was a mere “image” of the union He planned with us-the Indwelling Presence joined with ours.

So you also are complete through your union with Christ who is the head over every ruler and authority.  Colossians 2:9

“What do you think the scriptures mean when they say God longs jealously for the human spirit He has placed within us?    James 4:5-6&8

(Greek 1971 ἐπιποθέω from 1909 and potheo (to yearn); to dote upon, i.e. intensely crave possession (lawfully or wrongfully):–(earnestly) desire (greatly), (greatly) long (after), lust.   Strongs concordance.

Or that Holy Spirit placed within us, opposes our envy? (Greek 1971)But He gives us more Grace, (to be satiated; satisfied by Him, (Greek 5485)

Come close to God and He will come close to You

Part 2 Communicating Spirit to Spirit

Part 2 Communicating Spirit to Spirit

In Part One I shared about our being fearfully and wonderfully made, and how we may have unconsciously or deliberately rejected aspects of who we are due to misattributions regarding the origins of our various spiritual aspects or abilities. It is also my intent to show that spirit to spirit communication is based out of what and who we are, versus purely out of a belief system or practices we may engage in. This helps us understand how regardless of beliefs systems, all kinds of people are able to engage various, even similar spiritual  activities including communication.

Before we get into examples, some may be wondering where this type of thing is in the bible. There are verses in both the old testament and the new. Since Jesus came as the son of man as well as the son of God, as an example of us, not only for us, he models this for us specifically.
Only the first verse is written out. Luke 5:22, Matthew 9:4, 12:25

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts and questionings, answered them, Why do you question in your hearts? Luke 5:22 (Amplified)

Only a few of my favourite and most common personal communications by spirit are shared here in Part 2 due to length. As we will see, spirit communications can occur in a variety of ways. In Part 3 a friend shares a couple of her experiences, including texting in the spirit, and some other friends contribute too.

The first experience which I truly recognized as hearing another person versus the spirit of God left me startled and a little perplexed. I was shopping in the open produce aisles, unintentionally overhearing two ladies right behind me discussing their lives. I found myself relating and it was rather funny. I laughingly turned around to interject, the words dying on my lips in surprise. No one was there, yet the sound was clear and audible. Honestly it freaked me out a little. This is the kind of thing psychiatrists and mental health gurus generally call hallucinations–but nothing similar happened for a while.
When my son was around 6, I was doing the dishes one morning and thought to myself, I better tell him to get dressed before he comes out of his room because we have company coming. As I was thinking this, he came ripping down the hall behind me and threw over his shoulder as he passed, “I am dressed!”.
He responded vocally to something I hadn’t said aloud, but had only thought seconds before. I paused, “Did that just happen?” My 14 year old son came by so I told him what had just occurred “out of the blue”. We both wore goofy smiles, trying to comprehend it.

At this point I’d like to make an observation. Often when such things like this happen, people typically begin to wonder one or more of three basic things: 1) Am I psychic or special somehow? 2) Am I going crazy? Losing touch? 3) What door did I open so that dark spirits may affect my mind?
As a result, many who are unaware of a Father who formed and made us like himself may begin to seek extrasensory or spiritual experiences fervently, experimenting through any means available. Others may seek mental health help, or understand the experience is spiritual but recoil and try to shut it down, possibly believing that they have wandered into the “dark side” or need deliverance. Fewer think “this is normal”.
This is, in part, why I broached this subject–to create awareness that we all can do things we maybe never realized we could, or may have thought were off limits.
Some people deliberately seek and find, others stumble upon them.

The ability to hear and communicate various ways lies within our spirit.

The ability itself is not bad or good. It’s how we’re created. However, how we choose to use and express it another matter, like many things in life.

At a time I was seeking God for answers about direction, I knew a prophet from California who had spoken very specific things to my husband and I would be at a healing encounter weekend I also had plans to attend. I wanted to ask him why things seemed have gone the opposite way than expected since the last time we’d spoke with him. Yet, I also felt that he was “God’s man” and that it wasn’t right for me to just expect to ask and have him answer. It was an honour and respect type of thing vs a status thing–so I put a condition out- “If it’s okay for me to ask him about this, then please some how give me an indication–a sign of sorts. If it’s better I don’t ask, there will be no indicator I should.”
I went to the encounter and arrived early. Within moments after the prophet walked in, he greeted the other ladies, then looked at me, smiled largely and said, “I know you! My spirit knows you!” Surprised and grateful, I was also curious! Later, without my asking him anything he intently said, “He didn’t change His mind.”

One of the most common ways I experience spirit to spirit communication occurs in the midst of my day to day activities. I will have a person come to mind (usually clearly identifiable). Within a short time, that person will call me with a need or a question. This has been confirmed numerous times, until it’s become normal. Sometimes it’s fuzzier, like white noise, but I hear bits or phrases of conversation filtering through. I can pay attention or not. Often I’ll wonder who is involved and simply pray for the situation I “overhear”. I think many, many people experience this regularly but don’t realize the connection.

One of the most confirming experiences of the normalcy of this type of communication occurred when a prophetess and her daughter from Florida came to our church as conference speakers. At the time our church was focussing a lot on honour, so as they shared from the platform about a painful family experience, being open and honest about the fallout, I began to wonder where the story was going. I should have just been patient, but instead I said (thought out of my spirit only) to her, from my seat in the conference, “Why are you telling us this?” She kept speaking, so again I said (thought) more intently from my spirit, Why are you telling us this?” She then paused and replied vocally, “I am telling you this because…”
Honestly I don’t remember much of the redemptive purpose she gave because my attention shifted to what just transpired between us. This lady is a seasoned prophet and trustworthy pastor of a church. She heard my private inquiry in her spirit and responded vocally to it (just like my son did) Further, I didn’t pre-analyze and make a conscious decision to talk to her out of my spirit, it was natural for me to do so. It was only afterward I purposely thought on it. Often it seems like I stumble on spiritual realities; I’m surprised at times, and then I realize–we were made for this. Communing in spirit.

I have a close friend whom I share a lot of experiences with, and this is one of them. Since we experience a lot of the same things, and different things as well, we discuss and test a lot of things of spiritual nature.
Stay tuned for Part 3 where she and others share their experiences.

Is it Mental Illness, or is it Psychological Warfare?

Several years ago, I had an a very negative experience.

The church I attended was experiencing some big changes and although these were good, an enemy had an agenda too.

Difficulties began to emerge relationally, a number of people were confused, hurt and communication began to break down. People’s minds and hearts were under assault. It became clear that there was more at work than human souls.

I assumed the affects were localized to people directly involved in some of the conflicts. Therefore, My experience seemed bizzare and unrelated to praying about these issues.

I began to have mental flashes, intrusive mental pictures and short movie type scenes playing in my mind that no one would want. They seemed intermittent at first and were disturbing. Then the frequency increased and occurred both at night and in the day.

At this point of such an experience, many people begin to wonder, “Am I  going crazy? Am I losing it?” or assume that this can be the only plausible answer. Sometimes, maybe most times, it’s psychological warfare.

Because I didn’t understand what was occuring and didn’t seem to know how to completely block these images from my mind, I began to feel distressed and anxious. My present experience seemed to outweigh my spiritual training–my understanding needed upgraded, but not the way I expected.

When we encounter new things, or the unknown, we are in learning mode. We Don’t feel we have all the info needed for the present. We have past experience and victories to guide our responses, but more so, we pay close attention to our commander for more Intel and directions.

On Ground level, such experiences may feel chaotic. It’s hard to see what’s actually taking place, and Friendly Fire may occur. What we experience at ground zero may feel intense, confusing, painful.

At some point, I shared with someone that I was experiencing some unusual things and found out that many others were as well. In this situation, trying to figure out what spirit is creating the trouble is often typical protocol for spiritual warfare.

Many, if not most of us, have been taught in both the natural world and the spiritual, we need to trace the source of the enemy attack in order to be free, to find out how the enemy found a door or legal right. This typical response is so opposite of what Holy Spirit began to teach me.

Often we are taught things that sound spiritual but aren’t necessary to our freedom and may even cause us to feel more bound up. When we honestly desire truth, He will lead us into it.

Eventually the trouble all stopped, and in the aftermath I could see so clearly what I couldn’t in the midst of the experience. Because it had seemed so real, I was afraid that somehow I might be at fault for what I was experiencing, or that I might be losing the ground I had previously gained-even though my whole heart was resisting and I just wanted it to end.

I’ve learned so much since that experience about a new kind of weapon. A type of “warfare” that consists of a state of Rest.

Sometimes people describe contending for something and yet as I listen to them it sounds more like they are praying from a place of fear, or trying to shadow box (which is what I’d been experiencing with those mental flashes).
True contending comes from a place of standing firm in confidence, knowing that we have the upper hand in authority and power, convinced that we are already triumphant.

As I thought about that past experience, I found myself wishing that someone could have identified the real issue and told me:

The fact is you Are Free, and no attempt to affect you changes that. Nothing has changed in reality; you are experiencing a ruse.

All I really needed was to know that it was merely smoke and mirrors; it wasn’t me and wasn’t mine and I didn’t need to react as though it was. I could have simply rested and known I was just fine, ignoring the mind tricks. Any tactic the enemy was using was simply that-a tactic. Nothing had actually changed.

None of it was real.

Like in the Divergent serieswhen Tris is in the water tank and seems about to drown (which felt very real to her in the moment) but suddenly she saw and knew the truth:

“This isn’t real.”

The experience was a phenomena of the mind that felt very real, like a dream might, but when she realized it was merely a psychological phenomena, she was free that instant-actually she had been free the whole time. She simply came to that awarenessTest over.

The experience I had was one of the worst types of torment I’d ever experienced. But now I know something I didn’t understand then:

If it’s not His, it’s not mine.

I am one spirit with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). I don’t have to shadow box a defeated enemy. I don’t need to wear myself out resisting, repeatedly declaring, binding, and trying to block the enemy from messing with my head, sparring until I’m exhausted, only to start all over again the next day or time.

Here’s a fact. Our spiritual enemies are narcissists. They love for the focus to be on them. The more you spar the more egomanic they behave. That’s why Rest is an amazing weapon. It’s function is much like the imagery in Psalm 23.

THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.
Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head withoil; my [brimming] cup runs over. Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

I can dismiss whatever isn’t good, pure, noble or trustworthy because the Strong Man (Holy Spirit) lives in me. This house is filled. I can set my gaze on the One who loves me and gave himself for me.

Experientially we learn to live in our dominion too. When we know the truth, we experience and live the Helmet of Salvation, the mind of Christ.                                  Our mind becomes a fortress of peace when we understand the truth.

We don’t have to feel vulnerable,  we can be confident in trust, and enter His rest.

Experiencing Oneness-the Unexpected Element

Experiencing Oneness: the Unexpected Element

quite what I expected to hear say….. “Are you willing to be inconvenienced? “I barely thought for a moment before emphatically exclaiming, “Yes anything, I just want to know what it is to experience this oneness with you!”
That theme had been running through my soul for a couple months..? Oneness with God…to be one with Him… What exactly did it mean? I knew He lived in me, and was all around… So what was this echo in my soul I kept hearing? Oneness with God…there seemed to be an invitation in the words.

On the drive in to the city I was lost in His presence, Experiencing His tangible Love. There was an intensity to it I’d not known before..my whole being knew then what the psalmist, prophet, king, David had experienced when he penned: My heart & flesh cry out, for you the living God; your spirit is water for my soul, so my whole being longs for you.

Now standing at the jewelry counter just days before Christmas, my mind was transfixed, not on the gold and sparkling gems, but on what had transpired during that last 3/4 hour of the drive. I’d asked Him, what does it Really mean to be One with you? How do I experience it fully?  He replied,” Are you willing to be inconvenienced? In awe of everything I’d experienced thus far with God, caution was flung aside, in my resounding “Yes!”

“Then be ready,” I heard within. I left the store with my distraction, smiling as the fragrance of His presence flowed with me as I went, wafting as strong as any young girl’s zealous application of her favorite perfume…it seemed as though a vial of it were being poured out from the heavens, and I breathed it in as I went.
After that time, I found that in the midst of my busy life, Suddenlys occurred…Suddenly when I was doing one thing… I would be drawn into another. Suddenly & often. And I began to set aside what I was doing, to take the five minutes to reply to a text now instead of later & by the spirit of God in me, suddenly hearing the thoughts & feeling the emotions of another that I might reach out to them.

And ten or fifteen more minutes in the grocery store when the woman who I passed in the aisle & said hi to, stopped her cart & within moments shared her grieving heart. It was who told her sister not to go to the doctor, “it was nothing,” but now she was gone, a few months had taken her…so with my heart feeling the pain of hers, I prayed with her to know the God of all Comfort’s ease in her own heart.

An hour on the phone answering questions when I should have been doing my course work, more talking rather than sleeping when fear & anxiety knocked on someones door just as they were trying to get some rest–on and on they’ve come… these “inconveniences”.

I didnt always yeild myself so willingly….I debated & ignored on occasion. Once out walking on the golf course, I noticed a man who seemed to have a brace on his knee. I was contemplating praying for him for healing as I spied him out, when I heard the Lord whisper- ‘Go over there, ‘I peered safely from a distance a moment longer & then asked increduously, “Is that a Prostheses!?,” and froze. Again I heard Him softly whisper; this time saying; ‘Go home daughter”, and heart heavy, I did, again regretting my selfish choice….

Another time , I’d awkwardly left the middle of worship practice when a lady came in at nine-thirty am before the service saying; “Can you take me to emergency? I don’t feel well at all,” and then having sat beside the gurney praying, thinking to God, “THIS is Real Christianity isnt it?”

Remembering this occasion amidst others caused me to begin to understand; All those incidences were part of experiencing Oneness with God. They were the reason for His question “Are you to be inconvenienced?” Through every incident His Will & Compassion were molding mine to His. When I objected, I had an acute awareness of being out of synch with His desires; when I reached out, life & love flowed to the hurting, Two hearts beat as one, His will became my will, His compassion- my compassion, His being-my being, His thoughts-my thoughts and even unto My voice being as His voice, My hands-His hands in Healing,  a Beautiful Partnering & Exchange as I began to know in a fuller sense what it is to be One with God.

1Corinthians 6: 17 But he who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit (with Him) . As I yielded my will to His, amazing things began to happen… People we’re becoming whole, suddenly! I was recieving feedback. A young woman who complained of feminine issues reported back the next day the issue stopped! I had simply said; Oh thats just not right! pointed at her feminine parts and said; Just stop it right now!” … and, it did. Our lizards lumps “that lizzards don’t get” dried up & left in the order they came as my son & I persisted insisting that they “Go!” They come more frequently now, reports of the Lord’s goodness, as I experience what it is to be one spirit with Him.

Most often these encounters no longer feel like an inconvenience; my heart leaps at the chance to share the goodness of a God who desires to intimately be One with people, giving His strength to our weakness & wholeness & beauty where pain has ravaged the landscapes of our being, spirit, soul and body. It turns out the inconvenience is really an honor.

Then the King will say to them,  “In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services( visiting, feeding, sheltering, clothing, healing etc) to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.” Likewise, “in solemn truth in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.” Matt. 25:40+

How closely He identifies Himself with us, and how closely we can identify with Him, if we are willing to be inconvenienced…..if we are willing to experience our being One….
